About
Mitch Weakley is a composer from the Chicagoland area. He has a bachelor’s degree in music education from Eastern Illinois University. He also holds a master’s degree in music composition from Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA).
Ability and Inspiration
Mitch composes music of all genres and feels he has a special affinity for crafting compositions that fit any particular need or appeal. He has the unique ability to carefully dismantle sounds and styles into intricate detail which allows him to recreate a unique piece of music to meet every interest. To aid in the creative process, Mitch performs and records many instruments including brass instruments, guitar, bass, drum set, and piano/keyboard.
Another artistic expression for Mitch’s music is composing and remixing music for Twitch.tv streamers and YouTubers. As an avid gamer, his favorite games involve a high degree of customization, such as RPG’s or racing games as well as first person shooter and player-versus-player games.
When Mitch composes pieces from his own inspiration, it is dramatic, one of a kind, music that starts out as sounds and music heard only in his mind. It is his true passion to convert internal music from his head into reality for everyone to experience. When Mitch creates original works from his own inventiveness, he typically composes in electronic and electroacoustic styles.

Mitch has been recognized with many awards, most notably The Allen Strange Memorial Award at the 2015 SEAMUS National Conference for his electroacoustic piece entitled, Nexus. He was also the winner of the CCPA competitions for Contemporary Ensemble Composition, Michael Hall Viola Composition, and Wind Ensemble Composition.
Mitch’s orchestral composition, Trilogy, was performed at VIVID 2018: CCPA Annual Showcase by the CCPA Orchestra at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, Illinois. This accomplishment was celebrated by the CCPA composition department, Dr. Teddy Niedermaier described it as "Extremely Dynamic". Mitch was also featured in a Kankakee Daily Journal article.
Mitch’s music has been showcased at several conferences including, C3 Electro-Acoustic Concert (2020), Chicago Electro-Acoustic Music Festival (2019, 2017), New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival (2018), SEAMUS Conferences (2018, 2017, 2015), National Student Electronic Music Event (2017, 2015), Society of Composers Inc. Student National Conference (2016), and Electro-Acoustic Barn Dance (2015).
